Pittsburg resident being held in Parsons pending review of charges
The Parsons Police Department has announced the arrest of Charles Levi Miller, 34, of Pittsburg,
Kan., following an investigation.
The arrest occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on Wednesday, August 14th.
During the early morning hours, Sgt. Christian Smith observed a vehicle parked in the area and initiated
an investigation. K9 Morgan was deployed to conduct an open-air sniff of the vehicle and subsequently
alerted officers to the presence of controlled substances. A thorough search of the vehicle confirmed
the presence of illegal drugs, leading to Miller’s arrest.
Miller is currently being held at the Parsons Police Department Lock-up pending review of
charges by the Labette County Attorney’s Office.
The charges under review include two felony counts of Aggravated Violation of Offender Registration, one felony count of Violation of Offender Registration 2nd Offense, and one misdemeanor count of Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Further investigation revealed that Miller is a registered sex and drug offender in the state of
Kansas. His previous convictions include Indecent Solicitation of a Child in November
2010, and Possession of Paraphernalia with Intent to Manufacture a Controlled Substance in
2015.
Miller is classified as a lifetime offender and has been under mandatory registration since January
28, 2011.
The Parsons Registered Offender Program (PROP) was promptly notified, and a compliance
check was conducted regarding Miller’s registration status.
It was discovered that Miller had failed to comply with his annual renewal requirement for his Kansas ID/DL in July of 2023, a violation that had persisted for over 380 days. Due to the prolonged non-compliance, this violation has been classified as aggravated.
Miller has a prior conviction for Violation of Offender Registration in 2016, further complicating his legal situation.
