Mo. State Fair won’t authorize ‘Lincoln-Douglas style’ debate between Hawley and Kunce
Missouri State Fair organizers have shot down a proposed political debate between the two main contenders for the U.S. Senate.
Missouri State Fair officials, in a Friday statement, said that the potential Lincoln-Douglas-style debate between Republican Missouri U.S. Senator Josh Hawley and his Democratic challenger Lucas Kunce, that was going to be hosted by the Missouri Farm Bureau, will NOT take place.
In a statement from the fair commission, “The State Fair should continue highlighting Missouri’s Agricultural industry and the work of our youth exhibitors.”
The reason for snubbing the planned debate was allegedly due to the efforts that went into setting this year’s fair agenda.
Debate or not, Kunce is challenging Hawley for the U.S. Senate position that will be decided in November.
