Litigation ends in Carthage but impeachment effort remains alive
A private meeting between the parties involved in a civil lawsuit in Carthage resulted in legal proceedings coming to an end.
A number of weeks ago, City Council members had voted to hold a hearing on Rife’s potential impeachment.
Carthage Mayor Dan Rife had wanted to know if, under the city charter, he had the right to veto a planned impeachment.
However, Judge Kevin Selby, who presided over a brief meeting on Friday, said it appeared Rife did not have that right.
Although the litigation on that issue was dropped, it appears the effort to impeach Rife is still on.
A hearing on that issue is tentatively slated for sometime next month.
The next meeting of the Carthage City Council is slated for Tuesday evening in Council chambers at City Hall.
