Commerce man arrested after allegedly threatening park goers in Galena

A man was arrested after an alleged armed altercation at a park in Galena, Kansas, Wednesday evening.

Galena Police say their officers, along with Cherokee County Deputies, were dispatched to a verbal exchange between a large group of individuals at the Schermerhorn Park creek.

Dispatch says the suspect, 23-year-old Skylar Matthew Howey, of Commerce, Oklahoma, allegedly assaulted park goers and their children by brandishing a firearm and fleeing the scene.

Baxter Springs Police Officers were able to find the suspects’ vehicle and make a felony car stop. Suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found, along with two guns that were seized.

Howey was transported to the Cherokee County Jail on allegations of possessing marijuana, drug paraphernalia, multiple counts of Aggravated Assault with deadly weapon, multiple counts of Aggravated Endangering a child, and possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.

Also arrested was 34-year-old Anthony Wayne Tiger of Baxter Springs, Kansas.

Tiger was transported to the Cherokee County Jail on allegations of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
