SEK Congressman LaTurner demands answers from Secret Service Director on Trump rally failures
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Jake LaTurner (KS-02) addressed and questioned the U.S. Secret Services Director, Kimberly Cheatle, during today’s House Oversight Committee hearing. Director Cheatle was subpoenaed to appear before the committee to answer questions about the historic security failures by Secret Service leading up to and during the Trump campaign rally in Bulter Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
“Director Cheatle was incredibly inconsistent with her answers before the committee today,” said Rep. LaTurner. “It has been nine days since the reprehensible assassination attempt on President Trump that injured innocent people and cost an American his life. Director Cheatle should have at least some answers for the American people, but instead she danced around members’ questions and wordsmithed non-answers. We know that this attack didn’t just slip through a breath of security. It was a breakdown in the Secret Service’s ability to carry out its core mission, and Director Cheatle’s inability to answer members of this committee only adds to the distrust of federal agencies among the American public.”
This afternoon, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and Ranking Member Jamie Raskin sent a letter to Director Cheatle demanding that she resign immediately. Rep. LaTurner joins his colleagues in this bipartisan effort calling for her immediate removal from the position.
