Joplin problem – vacant homes. Joplin Mayor has solutions

Vacant buildings are a problem in Joplin.  

Mayor Keenan Cortez tells Newstalk KZRG how the city is trying to take care of the problem.  

“The state has issued some arpa grant dollars that is helping us to tackle some of these.”  Cortez went on to say “And some of those ways, we’re doing some refurbishing, and some of those ways we’re doing demolition, and getting rid of them.  We usually do some of those every single month trying to wipe out some of these places and just return them to sellable lots.   Sometimes we do that with the cooperation of the property owner, and sometimes we don’t.”
