Joplin woman killed in Thursday afternoon crash
On July 18th, 2024, at 2:17 p.m. the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a 911 report of a two-vehicle crash at west 2nd Street and south Jackson Avenue.
Officers with the Joplin Police Department responded to the scene along with members of the Joplin Fire Department and METS Ambulance. Preliminary indications show a white Chevrolet passenger car was traveling south on Jackson Avenue and failed to yield to a silver Chrysler passenger vehicle traveling west on 2nd Street, causing a crash to occur. The driver of the Chevrolet was transported from the scene to a local hospital with critical injuries and died shortly thereafter.
The driver has been identified as Leah Sulier, age 72 of Joplin. Next of kin has been notified.
The driver of the Chrysler did not sustain any injuries. The Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team responded to the scene and are actively conducting the fatality crash investigation. Further details may be released as information becomes available.
