Joplin Police identify driver after fatal semi rollover on I-44

Joplin Police have identified the driver of the semi-truck that died in a crash on I-44 Tuesday morning.

Police say 58-year-old Mario Andres Guerrero Suarez, of Blue Springs, Missouri, was traveling east on Interstate 44 when the vehicle left the roadway near exit 13, struck the center median cable barriers and rolled over.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The eastbound lanes of the interstate were closed for several hours as crews cleaned up a corrosive chemical that was in the tractor trailer when the crash occurred.

This crash remains under investigation by the Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team and further details may be released as information develops.
