End of watch announced for Department of Corrections Sgt. Nicole “Nikki” Ellzey
As two corrections officers were being assaulted and stabbed at the Jefferson City Correctional Center, Sergeant Ellzey was able to intervene and place the offender in restraints, thereby likely saving the lives of the two officers.
The incident occurred in November 2023.
A short time after the incident, the 46-year-old Sergeant Ellzey was found alone in a room with her head down complaining of a severe headache. She continued to complain of headaches and periodic dizziness until she collapsed at work several weeks later. She was then taken by ambulance to an area hospital where she was discovered to have two brain aneurysms.
After emergency surgery that lasted almost eight hours, Ellzey did not regain consciousness. She remained in a coma until her death on Sunday, June 9th.
Sgt. Ellzey is survived by her four children.
