Carthage’s Limestone Street storm siren damaged by lightning

The Carthage Fire Department says one of the city’s storm sirens, located on Limestone Street in north Carthage, is not operating.

The siren took a direct hit from lightning and destroyed many components to the siren, according to a CFD Facebook post.

The siren company has examined the siren and have ordered the parts to repair it. However, these parts will not be available immediately.

The siren company, Blue Valley Public Safety Inc., has stated that the parts to repair the siren could take 6-9 weeks to arrive.

The Carthage Fire Department encourages people in that area to pay close attention to local weather apps and channels for severe weather information and updates.
