Chip Caray and Joe Buck to Broadcast May 24 Cubs-Cardinals Game on Bally Sports
ST LOUIS – Caray and Buck. Two legendary names in baseball broadcasting will reunite in the St. Louis Cardinals television booth on Friday, May 24, when Joe Buck joins Chip Caray to broadcast the Cardinals’ game against the Chicago Cubs on Bally Sports Midwest. Pregame coverage starts at 6:30 p.m. CT, with first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m. CT.
Caray is in his second season as the television voice of the Cardinals. Buck will call his first local Cardinals telecast since 2007. Buck broadcast Cardinals games on FOX Sports Midwest and the Cardinals Radio Network from 1991 to 2007 and is currently the play-by-play announcer for Monday Night Football on ESPN. Buck will fill in for Brad Thompson and Jim Edmonds on May 24.
Caray and Buck follow in the Cardinals footsteps of Chip’s grandfather, Harry Caray, and Joe’s dad, Jack Buck, as the Cardinals and Cubs renew their rivalry in 2024. Jack and Harry called Cardinals games together on KMOX Radio from 1954-59 and 1961-69.
“Holy cow, this should be fun,” said Chip Caray. “I’ve known Joe since our days together in the early days with FOX. I grew up listening to his dad, and my kids have grown up listening to him. I’m really looking forward to a night of laughs, stories, and great memories of the guys who made US possible.”
“I’m excited to bring it back to where it all started for me in the big leagues,” said Joe Buck. “The Cards are a part of my DNA and it will be fun to be their guy on the air for a night. Chip is a longtime friend, and I am a big fan of his, so to work with him will make it that much better. It’s his booth, and I’m just the guest and that’s how I’ll treat it.”
Chip is the third generation of Carays to serve as a play-by-play announcer, after his father Skip and grandfather Harry, who called Cardinals games from 1945 to 1969 and broadcast the Oakland A’s and Chicago White Sox before joining the Cubs in 1982. Chip’s half-brother, Josh, is the play-by-play announcer for the Southern League’s Rocket City Trash Pandas. Chip’s twin sons, Chris and Stefan, are also baseball broadcasters with the Oakland Athletics and Double-A Amarillo Sod Poodles, respectively.
Before joining ESPN, Joe Buck was the lead play-by-play announcer for Major League Baseball and the NFL on FOX, calling a record 24 World Series. Jack and Joe Buck both called the Super Bowl and World Series nationally. Jack was the voice of the Cardinals from 1954-59 and 1961-2000, the radio voice of Monday Night Football and called the World Series nationally on both radio and TV.
“We’re thrilled to have two of the best broadcasters of their generation team up to call another chapter in the Cardinals-Cubs rivalry and link decades of Cardinals and baseball history,” said Bally Sports Midwest general manager and senior vice president Jack Donovan.
