Van Becelaere Greenhouse and Feed Store is partnering with The Rock Yard

If you have a green thumb and live in the Joplin area, you’re in luck.

Van Becelaere Greenhouse and Feed Store is partnering with The Rock Yard in Joplin.

“It kind of just happened,” Julie Van Becelaere, owner and operator of Van Becelaere Greenhouse and Feed Store, told NewsTalk KZRG. “The Rock Yard heard I was looking for a place and they have been looking for someone to sell flowers and other plants since they stay so busy with their landscaping. It just made sense to combine the two and partner up. They’ve been very generous in allowing us to use their space, and I think it’s working out nicely.”

Van Becelaere Greenhouse and Feed Store is located at 2513 E 4th Street in Pittsburg, Kansas. She said a lot of the great feedback she gets from customers comes from patrons traveling across the border from Joplin, Webb City, Neosho, Carl Junction and Carthage. So, Van Becelaere decided to bring her plants to her customers. 

“It seems like my radio advertising with Zimmer Radio has been so amazing for us because people hear about it, get excited for what we’re talking about and many of them show up and mention the ads, saying how they couldn’t wait to get over there to see what all we had,” Van Becelaere said. “They’re amazed by how big it is. We have 26 greenhouses in Pittsburg. So, we’ve brought the plants from Pittsburg to Joplin and put them on display here to save people a trip. We wanted to reach out to the different areas so more people may find themselves going to what we call the mothership in Pittsburg.”

You can now find them at The Rock Yard, located at 815 S Schifferdecker Ave in Joplin.

“We wanted to expand because we have so many people coming here from (out of state),” Van Becelaere said. “They are driving all the way to Pittsburg. I just thought, ‘Hey, let’s take the plants over there.’”

For Van Becelaere, she felt the two businesses went hand in hand. With The Rock Yard known around the area for supplying landscaping materials like mulch or stone decorative items, it was a no-brainer to add her plants into the mix.

“If you’re already coming here to get your rock, scoops of dirt or mulch, you might as well get some flowers while you’re here as well,” she said. 

Van Becelaere Greenhouse and Feed Store offers a variety of plants for every enthusiast, including but not limited to 12-inch Boston Fern hanging baskets, large hanging baskets with petunias to Trailing Verbena to Calibrachoas, tropical plants and other potted plants. 

“We have anything that you might need to beautify your flower beds, and you won’t believe the prices,” Van Becelaere said. “The prices are so very reasonable for the quality you’re getting.”

Of course, with Mother’s Day right around the corner, the perfect gift just got a little bit closer for the Joplin area. 

“All moms like receiving flowers,” Van Becelaere said. “Cut flowers are nice, but if you give mom a beautiful hanging basket—or we have some really unique cedar benches that we pot up with flowers, or there is even a three-part train and two-tier planters—those are unique gifts that mom is going to enjoy all summer."
