Pitt State Music Department offers summer music camps

Middle school and high school musicians and K-12 music teachers have an opportunity to learn, rehearse, perform, and have fun this summer in Pittsburg State University’s “Sounds of Summer” camp series directed by the Music Department and held at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.

Registration is now open at pittstate.edu/summercamps.

High School Band Camp • June 13

Cost $35 • Directed by Associate Professor Andrew Chybowski

Students will take their musicianship to the next level in rehearsals, sectionals, and master classes with faculty and university students, then perform in an evening concert with the Pittsburg Community Band at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.

Middle & High School String Camp • June 27-28

Cost $35 • Directed by Assistant Professor Ramiro Miranda

Students will attend transformative technique classes, improvisation sessions, orchestra rehearsals, sectionals, and master classes with faculty and university students, then perform in an evening concert at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.

High School District Music Workshop • July 29

Cost $20 • Directed by Professor Joanne Britz

Students will build music fundamentals to get a head start on preparing for District and State auditions. They will work with faculty and area professional musicians on tone, rhythm, technique, and phrasing, and learn many helpful tips to be successful at the audition process.

Teacher Vocal Music Workshop • June 19-20

Cost $150* • Directed by Assistant Professor Lydia Bechtel and Instructional Professor Patrick Howle

Teachers will refresh their approach to applied voice lessons with valuable sessions on vocal pedagogy, diction review, repertoire selection, audition preparation, a student master class, and more. Teachers may register for an optional $99 fee to earn 1 hour of credit. To earn credit, apply for admission for Summer 2024 as a non-degree seeking student at pittsatte.edu/apply. Once admitted, contact the Registrar at 620-235-4200 to be enrolled in MUSIC 589.01
