Razer leaving Missouri Senate after being appointed to the State Tax Commission
One of the Missouri Senate’s most visible Democrats is leaving the upper chamber for a new assignment.
On Friday, Governor Mike Parson appointed State Senator Greg Razer of Kansas City to serve on the State Tax Commission.
He had filed to run for re-election for the 7th District State Senate seat last month but has now withdrawn from the race, according to the Missouri Secretary of State’s website.
Razer is the only openly gay member of the Missouri Senate and has regularly advocated for LGBTQ rights.
He was a leading critic of bills signed into law last year that barred transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports and barred minors from receiving transgender medical treatments.
Razer will remain in the Missouri Senate until he’s officially confirmed by his fellow senators to take his seat on the State Tax Commission.
