Escaped inmate apprehended

LANSING, Kansas. – Lansing Correctional Facility (LCF) Minimum-custody resident Bradley G. Verstraete has been apprehended.
Verstraete was taken into custody Monday morning, April 8, 2024, by officials from the Lansing Police Department. He was arrested on the Kansas Department of Corrections escape warrant without incident.
Verstraete had been placed on escape status after he walked away from the minimum-security unit at LCF on April 7, 2024.
No other details are being released as the investigation is ongoing.
The Lansing Correctional Facility, formerly the Kansas State Penitentiary, opened in 1867.
The facility serves only males and maintains maximum and medium units totaling 1,920 beds and a 512-bed minimum security unit.
