Cherokee County Sheriff’s office warns residents about fake arrest warrant scam

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s office says in a Facebook post an area resident recently received a call from a thief posing as an agent with the FBI.

The “agent” said because the man missed a court hearing, a federal arrest warrant was issued for his arrest.

The man said the man could avoid being arrested by paying a fine over the phone.

The thief even sent a photo of the “warrant” by text (pictured below).

Fortunately, the man recognized this to be a scam and didn’t become a victim.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s office reminds you that law enforcement doesn’t call suspects on the phone to let them know they have a warrant and won’t ever call and ask for payment for something over the phone.

You can see they attempt to make the document to legitimize what they are saying.
