Active Lifestyle Events To Present Grant Check
Joplin, Mo, — Active Lifestyle Events, ALE, a 501(c)3 organization devoted to promoting health and fitness in our community, will be presenting a check to representatives of the Joplin Trails Coalition on Tuesday, Apri 9th at 10:00 a.m. The presentation will take place at Frisco Greenway Trail, St. Louis Avenue, trail head. The donation was funded by past proceeds from the Joplin Memorial Runs.
The Joplin Trails Coalition (JTC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating and maintaining multi-use trails in Joplin, Webb City, Carthage, Oronogo and Carl Junction Missouri. JTC currently manages two trails: the Frisco Greenway Trail that runs through Joplin and Webb City, and the Ruby Jack Trail that goes west from Carthage, MO through Oronogo, Carl Junction, and on to the Kansas state Line.
This grant funded a new concrete ramp recently installed on the west side of St. Louis Avenue.
For trail users with disability issues, it had been difficult to negotiate mobility chairs across the drop-off from where the sidewalk meets the trail. It's also been a safety issue for cyclists. The new ramp makes the Frisco Greenway more accessible and safer for all trail users.
The Joplin Memorial Run’s tag line is “Run, Remember, Rebuild”. The race is dedicated to remembering those lost in the EF-5 tornado that hit Joplin on May 22 nd , 2011 and to supporting rebuilding efforts.
Through the event, ALE has given over $350,000 to organizations such as Bright Futures, The United Way of SWMO, Rebuild Joplin, the Bill and Virginia Leffen Center for Autism, Stained Glass Theatre and the Joplin Humane Society.
