Joplin city council seats, school board positions claimed
Preliminary results are in from the April 2nd municipal elections and in Joplin there were several issues on the ballot.
“Proposition Progress”, the renewal of the capital improvement sales tax, passed with 2,141 YES votes to 1,391 NO votes, that’s roughly 60.5% of the vote.
“Proposition A”, the use tax on online purchases in Jasper County, passed with 61.03% of the vote.
City council members claiming seats tonight include Keenan Cortez, Joshua Bard, Doris Carlin, Chuck Copple, and Ryan Jackson.
Joplin School Board seats were also up for grabs, with Rylee Hartwell receiving the most votes out of the four candidates vying for TWO positions with 2,245. John Hird received 1,408 votes. Victor Sly received 1,372 votes. Derek Gander received 1,127 votes.

There was a 10.64% voter turnout in Jasper County.
Clerk Charlie Davis says there are some provisional ballots to process over the next day or so.
