Carthage couple arrested after alleged home burglary

A couple from Carthage, Missouri, has been taken into custody following an investigation into a residential burglary on Monday afternoon in southeast Kansas.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office says at 1pm, deputies were dispatched to a rural northern Cherokee County home after the owner returned to find the door had been kicked in and numerous items, including children’s Easter gifts, tools and several firearms were stolen.

In reviewing home surveillance, the deputy recognized the two suspects and the vehicle they were traveling in.

Knowing the suspects to be from the Carthage area, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputy coordinated with Carthage Police counterparts, who apprehended the suspects.

After being located by Carthage Police, the suspects were reportedly found to be in possession of a significant amount of methamphetamine, along with the property they allegedly stole in Cherokee County.

Both suspects, 43-year-old Michael Bryan Markham and 44-year-old Connie Hendrix are being held in the Jasper County Jail on allegations related to possessing narcotics and stolen property in Missouri.

Additionally, both suspects are facing charges in Kansas related to burglary, theft and criminal damage to property.
