Plocher switches races – files to run for Secretary of State
Dean Plocher, currently Speaker of the Missouri House, is now running for Secretary of State.
He filed to run in the Republican primary today, the final day candidates can file to run in the August primaries.
His entry into the Secretary of State’s race comes just days after Caleb Rowden, Senate President Pro-tem, dropped out of the contest.
Plocher is believed to be the subject of an ethics complaint and personnel inquiry being investigated by the House Ethics Committee.
He faces several Republicans in the Secretary of State primary, including fellow House member Adam Schwadron, State Senator Denny Hoskins, and former House Speaker Pro-tem Shane Schoeller, who won the Republican nomination for Secretary of State in 2012 but lost to Democrat Jason Kander.
