Gov. Parson update on southern border deployment
Governor Mike Parson has deployed personnel to the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas. 11 state patrol troopers have been supporting the Texas Department of Public Safety since March 1st.
48 Missouri National Guard members began their work on Friday after receiving initial orders last Monday.
The deployment is part of Operation Lone Star which is designed to curb illegal border crossings, the smuggling of drugs, and homeland security.
The Missouri National Guard members and troopers will help with the construction of physical barriers, security patrols, traffic enforcement, and crime prevention.
Parson issued an executive order last month activating up to 200 National Guard members and 22 patrol troopers for Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s mission.
