Person of interest in fatal stabbing arrested, charges filed

One of the two men being sought following a fatal stabbing on State Line Road over the weekend is in custody.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36-year-old Paul D. Phillips Jr., of Seneca, Wednesday evening.

It came just a short time after SWAT team members and other area law enforcement officers were leaving the scene of a perimeter they had set south of 7th and Malang Road, on the west side of Joplin.

Charges have been submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutors Office on Phillips for Second Degree Robbery, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

The case is still being investigated and more charges may arise from the investigation. Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is still looking for 30-year-old Scott B. Burleson, of Wyandotte, Oklahoma.

He is facing second-degree murder and armed criminal action charges in the death of 36-year-old Seth Langford, of Carl Junction, on Saturday.

If you know of Burleson’s location, please contact your local law enforcement agency or the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office dispatch at 417-359-9100.

Burleson is considered armed and dangerous so do not approach him.
