Burlison opposes Biden Administration’s proposed overtime pay changes
The Biden Administration wants to increase the number of Americans eligible to receive overtime pay.
A proposed rule change would increase the minimum salary threshold for “white collar” overtime exemption from about 35-point-5 thousand dollars a year to 55 thousand a year.
Southwestern Missouri Congressman Eric Burlison says doing so would put a heavier financial crunch on employers: “We all want everyone to get paid more money but at the end of the day if everyone’s being paid artificially inflated pricing then the result is that fewer people have jobs.”
A Biden Administration official says for too long many low-paid salary workers have been denied overtime pay and that all workers should be paid fairly.
The public comment period on the rule closed in November and responses are now being reviewed before it would take effect.
