Mercy Columbus receives transformational gift, paving way for healthier future

COLUMBUS, Kan. – A donor recognition event is set for Mercy Hospital Columbus on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, at 3 p.m., celebrating a transformative gift from Wes and Jan Houser that will impact the future of health care in the Columbus community.

The Housers’ gift of a new infusion suite advances the hospital’s mission by tripling the number of patients who can be served at one time while incorporating relaxing massage chairs to the treatment area. Previously, Mercy Hospital Columbus was limited in the number of patients it could serve, and outpatient infusions were administered in the Emergency Department overflow room.

“When the Housers reached out to me and said they wanted to stop by and visit about a gift that could really impact the community. I knew exactly what to propose,” Angie Saporito, Mercy Hospital Columbus administrator, said. “As soon as we sat down and I shared my thoughts for Mercy Columbus, it was as good as done. They agreed to make it happen, and because of them, we did.”

The new infusion center will offer infusions for multiple medical conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, osteoporosis, Crohn’s disease, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis and iron deficiency. Any provider, regardless of medical facility affiliation, can order outpatient infusion treatments through Mercy Hospital Columbus.

“The Housers’ investment in Mercy Hospital Columbus allows us to make a lasting difference in the lives of the patients we serve. This event is not just a celebration; it’s a heartfelt recognition of the partnerships that drive positive change,” said Miranda Lewis, Vice President, Mercy Health Foundation.

Media is invited to attend the event, where interviews will be available. For more information about Mercy Health Foundation, call 417-556-2267 or visit mercyhealthfoundation.net/communities/Joplin.
