Parson talks about solving childcare shortage
To help solve Missouri’s childcare shortage, Governor Mike Parson wants the legislature to pass a childcare tax credit package this year.
The plan would help childcare providers, donors to daycare centers, and businesses who help to cover the childcare costs of their employees.
According to Parson: “When you consider all the children in the state of Missouri and you only have the ability to take care of 39% of them in early learning facilities or childcare facilities, we’ve got to do a better job than that. We don’t like to think of our little kids run around in a daycare situation that you’re the workforce, but you will be. Everything we can do at a young age to prepare them for that and life’s journey is a good thing,” he says.
The governor’s budget proposal also includes 52 million dollars to boost childcare subsidy rates.
