Cassville man accused of posing as officer, asking for money

A man from Cassville, Missouri, is facing felony charges after a scam investigation by the Cherokee County Kansas Sheriff’s Office.

37-year-old Jerrod Wayne Archer was arrested in Ottawa County, Oklahoma, last week following an arrest warrant being issued for him in Cherokee County District Court.

Archer is accused of contacting a Cherokee County resident by phone in July 2023, posing to be a law enforcement officer.

Archer allegedly told the resident a co-worker had been taken into custody but could be released if the victim would send bond money through Venmo and MoneyGram.

Detectives identified Archer as the suspected perpetrator and sought charges of Felony Theft and False Impersonation.
