Independence Police Department arrest local for burglary and theft

The Independence Police Department (IPD) has arrested 28-year-old Joe Edward Henderson Jr. of Independence on charges of burglary and theft stemming from a theft investigation that was reported to IPD on December 29th.

At about 10:31 am on Friday, IPD received a report of theft in the 200 block of North 2nd  Street. The investigation revealed surveillance footage providing a description of the suspect. The individual captured in the recorded footage corresponded with a suspect observed in various other surveillance recordings pertaining to numerous reported thefts.

Soon after the officer returned to patrol from the initial report, the suspect was located merely seven blocks from the victim’s residence. Joe Edward Henderson Jr. was taken into custody without incident. Officers recovered and returned all reported stolen property to the victim approximately one hour after the initial call. Multiple previously reported cases were resolved following the apprehension of the suspect.

Surveillance cameras play a vital role in helping law enforcement solve crime. The footage can assist in cases solved more quickly, achieve a higher rate of successful case resolutions, and may be used in a court of law.

Police recommend that residents should consider purchasing a doorbell camera or other surveillance cameras to assist in deterring crime in their community. Henderson is being held on $7500 bond.
