Attorney General announces 93% reduction in SAFE Kit Backlog
There’s been a sizable reduction in the SAFE Kit backlog.
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has announced a 93 percent reduction in the backlog of untested sexual assault kits.
Bailey’s office also reported that more than 80 percent of Missouri law enforcement agencies have no untested sexual assault kits to report.
The nearly one-thousand DNA profiles uploaded from the tested kits have resulted in more than 450 hits, three felony convictions, and nine other cases set for trial or with warrants issued.
The first statewide inventory of untested sexual assault kits was completed in 2019.
When this effort started under Josh Hawley’s time as Attorney General, he cited about 7-thousand untested rape kits at that time.
