Sheriff’s office provides winter travel safety tips
As the winter season continues, Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves is providing reminders for residents to help keep them safe as they travel.
“This time of year, particularly in our part of the world, the weather can change from nice in the morning to frigid and icy by time the workday is over. That’s why it’s important to prepare ahead of time and stay aware of potential weather and road condition changes throughout the day,” stated Sheriff Groves.
“There are several things that can be done to help make sure your vehicle is winter ready, including ensuring proper tire inflation, it has adequate antifreeze, plenty of fuel and the battery is strong.”
“Additionally, we suggest keeping a winter weather kit on board, which should include bottled water, a blanket, jumper cables, crackers or granola bar and a phone charger.
“These items may come in handy as you wait for assistance should you slide off the roadway,” concluded Sheriff Groves.
