5 lead poisoning cases in Missouri from recalled cinnamon applesauce packets

There have been no deaths, but at least five children in Missouri have been sickened by cinnamon applesauce packets contaminated with lead.

The State Department Health and Senior Services says the packets are part of a nationwide recall of apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches by the company WanaBana.

They’re also distributed under the names Weis Cinnamon Apple Sauce and Schnucks Apple Sauce with Cinnamon.

Short-term exposure to high amounts of lead can cause headaches, abdominal pain, vomiting, and amnesia.

Long-term exposure can lead to brain fog, lowered IQ, fatigue, behavioral issues, and other problems.

State health officials say if you have any of these cinnamon applesauce pouches to empty them into the trash and then throw away the container.
