Report cards out: Missouri school performance shows similar marks as in 2022

Missouri school districts and charter schools have scored an average of 77 percent on their latest annual performance report. 

The new annual report cards, which use a more rigorous grading system to measure school performance, show the statewide 2022-2023 scores are similar to the previous year’s scores. 

State Education Commissioner Margie Vandeven says lower rates of student attendance and retaining teachers, as well as the pandemic’s impact on learning, have affected school performance. 

Vandeven said: “The performance of our student group, which is comprised of Black, Hispanic, English learners, free and reduced-price lunch, and special education, continue to see decline in performance, indicating that the gap is growing in some areas,” she says. * 

The scores show that about 100 districts are at risk of losing full accreditation if they don’t make improvements over a three-year period.
