Missouri Statewide prescription drug monitoring program goes live

Missouri’s statewide prescription drug monitoring program is officially up and running.

It was created two years ago when Governor Mike Parson signed the bill into law.

It’s aimed at reducing abuse and misuse of controlled substances such as opioids.

The system makes information available to prescribers, dispensers, and health care providers.

Pharmacies will be required to submit information to the program when they distribute certain drugs to Missouri patients.

Republican Senator Holly Thompson Rehder spent 10 years trying to get this passed before it was signed into law in 2021.
