Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies stop a potential suicide

On Tuesday, December 12th, deputies of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office helped stop a potentially life-threatening situation. Following the ordeal Sheriff Randee Kaiser made the following post to the department’s official Facebook Page:

“Deputies received a 911 call reporting an individual intending self-harm and threatening to use a weapon upon the arrival of law enforcement. Deputies responded to the area of County Road 150 and Sumac where the individual had parked his tractor trailer and walked into the woods with a handgun.

A deputy that is a trained negotiator established communication with the distressed individual via phone. At the same time deputies launched a drone to establish visual contact with the subject. Through skilled dialogue, the situation was deescalated, and ultimately the individual was convinced to lay down the weapon and exit the wooded area.

The individual was transported to the hospital for a 96-hour commitment. Our priority is to ensure the safety and well being of every individual in our community. The successful resolution of this incident is a testament to the dedication and expertise of your Jasper County deputies, leveraging both technology and skilled negotiations to peacefully resolve a very tense situation.”
