Police chase, gunfire, kidnapping: Pittsburg, Kansas

Following a police chase and subsequent arrest, the Pittsburg Police Department released the following statement:

Deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 300 block of south 240th Street. At approximately 1220 hours, the vehicle was located in the area of 250th and  620th Ave.

A short time later a vehicle a pursuit ensued with a gray Dodge pickup. The Deputy pursuing the suspect vehicle identified the driver as Dustin Clay, who was known to have active warrants for his arrest. The pursuit continued for several miles and came to an end at approximately 1236 hours at the 1200 block of east 8th street in Pittsburg when suspect vehicle crashed.

The suspect fled on foot into a residence that was known to him. Before entering the residence, pursuing Deputies and Pittsburg Officers heard gun shots fires from Clay. Clay entered the residence by force. An adult female called 911 and advised that her and her children were in the residence and had locked themselves in the basement for safety.

At approximately 1250 hours Clay surrendered to law enforcement with out incident. No one was injured. Clay was transported to the Crawford County Jail and booked in for felony fleeing and elude, aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, possession of stolen firearm, possession of stolen property.

The incident is still under investigation. Nothing further at this time.
