Could Election Day be declared a state holiday?
If some Missouri lawmakers get their way, Election Day could become a state holiday.
Under a proposal from Kansas City Democratic Representative Jamie Johnson, her prefiled bill would create a new state holiday for election day and requires colleges and universities to close, unless they are used as a polling place.
The U.S. Constitution requires Election Day to be the Tuesday after the first Monday in November.
The next general election is November 5, 2024.
