Charges filed in Newton County against robbery suspect Richard Mark Hatfield

Charges have now been filed against the suspect in the robbery of two Dollar General Stores in Newton County.

62-year-old Richard Mark Hatfield from Neosho is is held on a $250,000 cash bond.

Charges filed were 2 counts of First Degree Armed Robbery, 2 counts of Attempted Armed Robbery and Felony Resisting.

The arrest came after a detective who was watching a store approached a vehicle and observed a driver with black paint on his face, matching an earlier description.

The suspect, now identified as Hatfield, fled.

While officers were approaching he yelled at them that he had a gun and to stay away and fled on foot in the dark. Detectives were able to determine that the suspect was  at the Bed and Bath hotel on 59 Highway in Neosho.

Officers found him in a room attempting to remove the paint from his face.

He was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Office where he gave a statement about the 2 previous Robberies.

Several hundred dollars believed to be from the robberies were recovered from the hotel room.
