Mum’s the word as the Missouri House Ethics Committee concludes its second closed door meeting

Mum’s the word as the Missouri House Ethics Committee concluded its second meeting at the State Capitol in Jefferson City.

Wednesday’s closed door committee meeting was over a ‘personnel inquiry’ and a ‘house ethics complaint.’

According to a St. Louis newspaper, House Speaker Dean Plocher is suspected to be the subject of the investigation.

Committee Chairwoman Hannah Kelly, a Representative from Mountain Grove, could not provide the details citing a House rule, which says that the complaint shall be confidential.

When Newstalk KZRG asked if Missourians have a right to know what the investigation is about, Kelly said this…

“Do I think that residents have a right to know what we are meeting about behind closed doors? I believe that, and know, that every member of this committee is duly elected to do a job and we have a job in front of us that has clearly defined rules around it, of which I’ve referred to Rule 37 many times, and I can assure you that the people of the 141st district, as well as Representative Sauls’ and all the members of this committee hold implicit trust in our ability to do the job at hand. I come from the private sector and, um, let me just say no more.”

Kelly says there will be a third meeting, but it is unclear when.
