Missouri’s Cold Weather Rule begins November 1st
The Missouri Public Service Commission’s rule is designed to help keep elderly, disabled, and low-income customers from having their heat-related utilities shut off this winter.
Heat-related service cannot be disconnected when the temperature is predicted to drop below 32 degrees during the following 24-hour period.
The Cold Weather Rule applies to natural gas and electric utilities that provide heat-related service, under PSC jurisdiction.
Municipally operated systems, cooperatives and those that provide propane delivered by truck are NOT under the commission’s jurisdiction.
The rule remains in effect through the end of March.
