Ottawa County attorneys file appeal in $33 million wrongful death judgement

Ottawa County attorneys have filed an appeal in a $33 million judgement in a wrongful death lawsuit for an Ottawa County inmate.

Back in 2015, inmate Terral Ellis died 12 days after turning himself in on a DUI warrant.

He died of sepsis and pneumonia at a Miami hospital, after being found unconscious in his cell.

In August, a jury awarded his estate 33 million after a jury agreed the Ottawa County Sheriff had violated Ellis’ constitutional right to adequate medical care.

County attorneys have filed three motions in U.S. Federal Court in Tulsa to appeal that judgement.
