Jefferson City Legacy Tours set for Friday October 6th
Those wanting to know more about the role African-Americans played in building Missouri’s capital city can sign up for trolley tours set for Friday, October 6th.
The 2023 Legacy Tours are being conducted by Lincoln University and the Jefferson City branch of the NAACP.
Two tours, morning and afternoon, will take place on a trolley car and will tell the history of the first Black settlers who helped build Jefferson City.
They’ll pay honor to the first enslaved people who were sold at an auction held downtown in 1833.
The tours will proceed to the town’s national cemetery, where a presentation will be made about the 62nd Regiment, United States Colored Infantry, which after the Civil War funded the creation of Lincoln University.
Food and drinks will be provided.
