Ameren Missouri plans two new power plants to meet customer need

Ameren Missouri has updated its electricity plan for the future.

Ameren Missouri has announced that it is planning on building two new power plants as a way to strengthen the state’s energy grid.

Under this new proposal, the company plans to build a new 800-megawatt natural gas power plant by 2027.

It will serve as backup power at times of peak winter and summer energy demand.

Ameren Missouri also will move back a previously announced 1,200-megawatt plant to 2033 following the retirement of the Sioux Energy Center in 2032.

Ajay Arora, the company’s senior vice president, said that the investments are designed to keep rates as low as possible for customers.
