Alford says government shutdown appears likely
There’s been no progress so far in heading off a shutdown of the federal government, which is now less than 5 days away.
A small group of Republican U-S House members are rebelling against the debt ceiling reduction agreement reached earlier this year.
Western Missouri Congressman Mark Alford is NOT part of the breakaway group, he says he’s friends with one of them:
“We’ve had a discussion. He just doesn’t feel like we can move forward with the spending levels. We shouldn’t have waited till this moment in time to pass these appropriation bills and it’s time for Congress to start doing the job that we were sent here to do.”
Those spending bills include the National Defense Authorization Act, reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration, and the new farm bill.
