Missouri’s annual unclaimed property auction is this week
The state’s annual unclaimed property auction is this week in southeast Missouri.
State Treasurer Vivek Malek says more than 21-hundred lots will be auctioned off between Wednesday and Thursday in Cape Girardeau.
Malek said: “They’ll include a wide range of collectible antiques, jewelry, and more. For book lovers, there is a rare 1913 pilgrimage journal to Rome,” says Malek. “For history and coin collectors, there’s a five piece Great Depression coin set from 1949, which includes a wheat Penny, buffalo nickel, mercury dime and more.”
Under Missouri law, financial institutions surrender safe deposit boxes after five years of inactivity.
Each year, the State Treasurer’s Office receives the contents of about one-thousand safe deposit boxes.
