Resurfacing project to close Schifferdecker Golf Course in October

The Schifferdecker Golf Course in Joplin will be closed for most of the month of October, city officials say.

Resurfacing work on the cart paths of Joplin Schifferdecker Golf Course is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 2. Due to all of the cart paths being under construction and large equipment working on and around the course, the golf course will close on October 2 through the month of October.

“This work will be extensive, and all cart paths will be removed at the same time, causing an eight-inch trench where these existed,” said Paul Bloomberg, Director of Parks and Recreation. “In addition, there will be heavy equipment moving throughout the course and these conditions create an unsafe environment for the public. We are currently planning to be closed for the month of October but remain optimistic that the work can be done quickly, weather permitting.”

As the work is completed and the opening nears, the City will announce reopening dates through local news media sources, its websites, www.joplinmo.org   www.joplinparks.org and social media platforms on Facebook.

“We appreciate the public’s understanding as we make this necessary improvement to the course,” he said. “Following this work, golfers will enjoy a better experience using the cart paths throughout the course.”

Due to the course being closed during the project, season pass holders will be given an extension on their pass for the duration that it is closed.  The clubhouse will remain open in October and guests will be able to take advantage of the putting green, simulator, and pro shop. They can also access the end-of-season sale of merchandise that is offered.

During this closure, staff will also be able fast-track other needed projects of verticutting and aeration, overseeding the greens, painting the clubhouse and preparing the floor for carpet replacement, and repairing and installing drainage at Hole 18.
