Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper involved shooting
There was a Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper involved shooting. Following the event the OHP issued the following press release:
At approximately 8:22 Wednesday morning, an OHP trooper conducted a traffic stop on the Turner Turnpike eastbound at mile marker 183 in Creek County.
The trooper requested assistance with a K-9 deployment. A physical struggle ensued roadside and continued into the cab of the truck. The driver attempted to drive away with the trooper still engaged in a physical confrontation with him. At approximately 8:35, the trooper advised the communications center shots had been fired.
The driver of the truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver’s name is not being released at this time, pending next of kin notification.
OHP Troop Z investigators processed the scene and will complete a thorough investigation. The investigation will be turned over to the Creek County District Attorney.
The trooper involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
