Missouri gubernatorial candidate goes ‘viral’ after burning boxes with flamethrower

Republican Missouri gubernatorial candidate Bill Eigel has gone viral on social media after video surfaced of him and fellow state Senator Nick Schroer burning a pile of cardboard boxes with flamethrowers.

The two were then flamed by certain social media users for a “literal book burning”.

“Missouri Republicans at a literal book burning. They think flamethrowers should be legal but history books should be destroyed,” reads one Sunday post on X, formerly known as Twitter sharing the video. The post had more than 16,000 likes as of Monday, and the claim also spread on TikTok and Facebook.

Eigel, who just recently announced his candidacy for Missouri governor next year, responded to the criticism by saying, “In the video, I am taking a flamethrower to cardboard boxes representing what I am going to do to the leftist policies and RINO corruption of the Jeff City swamp,” he tweeted. “But let’s be clear, you bring those woke pornographic books to Missouri schools to try to brainwash our kids, and I’ll burn those too – on the front lawn of the governor’s mansion.”

The footage was taken at an event called Freedom Fest, a fundraiser for the St. Charles County Republican Central Committee, said Sophia Shore, the campaign manager for Eigel’s gubernatorial campaign.

Eigel faces Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft and Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe for the Republican nod in the governor’s race.
