Parsons Police arrest armed woman

On September 7, 2023, Parsons Police Officers were dispatched to a disturbance involving a firearm in the 3000 block of Main. The caller was able to identify the suspect as Chasity Marie McRoberts, 41 of Parsons, and told dispatch that she had left the location eastbound in the alley.

Parsons Patrol Lieutenant Kyle Wiford arrived in the area and located McRoberts on a bicycle trying to flee the area. Lt. Wiford activated his lights and siren to stop McRoberts near Main Street. She was ordered to place her hands on her head but attempted to flee on foot from officers. Lt. Wiford was able to stop her, and she was placed under arrest without further incident.

During the arrest a firearm fell out of McRoberts’ backpack. Officers spoke with witnesses who stated that the altercation started when McRoberts entered the victim’s backyard through a shut gate where a juvenile was at. The juvenile ran into the house and told the victim that someone had come into the backyard. The victim went to the yard to investigate and found McRoberts just outside the fence. When told to leave, McRoberts pulled the gun out, pointed at the victim and threatened to shoot them.

Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks stated, “This is another one of those incidents that everyone is thankful for the peaceful resolution. Anytime weapons are involved, and nobody is injured it is a blessing. I want to thank Lt. Wiford and Sergeant Waylon Kepley for their speedy response and effective handling of a potential deadly situation. Now we let the judicial system do their part to protect the community.”

The Parsons Police Department is requesting the following charges for Chasity McRoberts from the Labette County Attorney’s Office: Aggravated Assault, Interference with Law Enforcement, Criminal Trespass, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. McRoberts case was seen by a district judge, and she was given a $10,000 dollar cash surety bond. She has been transferred to the Labette County Jail until her bond is posted.
