Gas prices to spike up to $1 per gallon in the Corn Belt

Missouri drivers should prepare now for spiking gasoline prices in the coming days.

GasBuddy predicts that gas prices in Corn Belt states, Missouri included, could see fuel prices increase anywhere from 50-cents to a $1 per gallon over the next several days.

A refinery outage may be to blame.

Prices began going up in late July as Saudi Arabia and Russia cut production, in addition to record temperatures in the South.

GasBuddy says that wholesale gasoline prices were up nearly $1 per gallon from a week ago, meaning retailers that buy new supplies of gasoline will likely have to raise their price substantially to avoid losing money.

Missouri’s statewide average is $3.51 for regular while the national average is $3.80.
