Two from St. Louis, including a one-year-old boy, die in a Barry County accident

Two St. Louis residents, one an infant, died in a crash at MO 97 at Route 60 three miles west of Monett in Barry County just before 9:20 Friday night.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the crash occurred when a southbound 2014 Subaru Legacy driven by 36-year-old Hao Yan of St. Louis failed to stop at a stop sign and traveled into the path of an eastbound 200 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 49-year-old Barry W. Jones of Independence, Missouri.

After impact, both vehicles traveled off the roadway.

Two passengers in Yan’s car died in the accident: a 32-year-old woman, Xiao-Xioa Zheng, and a one-year-old male infant. They were pronounced dead at the scene by Barry County Coroner Barry Swearingen.

Yan and a 3-year-old girl in his car both had moderate injuries.

They were taken to a Joplin hospital.

Jones was not injured.
