The first day of school!
For many students in the 4 states area today is the first day back to school!
Mental health experts advise students to keep a positive attitude and to be cognizant of their sleeping schedules.
For parents, experts also recommend creating a comfortable or distraction free study space for the upcoming year. For those who can’t create such a space in their home going to a local coffee shop, community center, or library is a great secondary location for students to get school work done.
Law enforcement also reminds drivers to be aware of kids getting on and off of school buses along roadways.
The Joplin Police Department posted on their Facebook page, “As the new school years starts this week, we want to remind all drivers to be aware and have extra precaution in and around school zone areas. Drivers are urged to pay attention for increased pedestrian traffic, traffic congestion near schools, frequently stopping school buses, and increased police presence for reduce speed limits for school zones. We hope everyone has a safe and fantastic school year!”:
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office posted similar words of warning, “Unfortunately, children tend to be at greater risk during the back-to-school period because they are thinking more about seeing old friends and new teachers than watching for cars and trucks. Some are going to school for the fist time so please be especially cautious in school areas, keeping your speed at or below posted limits and be prepared to stop, on both sides of the street, for school buses with flashing red light, as required by Missouri state law.”
